Propane Grills – Safe Use

March 23rd, 2010

With the popularity of grilling out, especially with clean, convenient propane gas grills, the sight of backyard cooking is a common one through the summer. Propane grills are designed for the maximum safety possible when dealing with a volatile gas and fire. With just a little care and common sense, you will likely never have an accident with your propane grill. There are some things to keep in mind, though, to make sure all your grill time is fun time.

It should go without saying that a reading of the user’s manual is recommended to familiarize you with a new propane grill’s features at least. Despite a propane grill being much like a kitchen stove, never use one in an enclosed area. This includes garages or basements. Propane does generate fumes when burned.  There are many different types of propane grills, but no type should be used indoors due to the fuel in use.

When you are not using your propane grill, either between cookouts or for seasonal storage, you should make sure all controls » Read more: Propane Grills – Safe Use

Ideas For Using Portable Gas Grills

March 20th, 2010

A portable gas grill may not, at first, seem like a product that would serve many purposes in your life. Perhaps you own a full size grill already, and doubt there’s much you need a tiny little grill for. Or perhaps you don’t own a grill and are perfectly happy with the meals you make for yourself and your family. Or perhaps you have a portable charcoal grill and don’t see the need for a gas version.

No matter what you’re grilling situation, if you don’t own a portable gas grill, it really is something you should look into. Perhaps not everyone, but most people probably have some great dream scenarios for situations and occasions that would be the perfect setting for the use of a portable gas grill – and they may not even know it!

Here’s our top four list of ways to use (and reasons to invest in) a portable gas grill:

  • Camping. Because the propane tanks used for portable gas grills are much smaller than their full-size counterparts, these are incredibly portable. Since the fuel is contained, you avoid some of the safety hazards of cooking with fire while you camp, plus it doesn’t take long at all to get the heat up to temperature and ready to cook.
  • Picnics. Like camping, only cleaner. A portable gas grill means you can have fresh grilled picnic fare almost anywhere (where it’s allowed, of course). Simple and portable, many come with easy covers and carrying cases, so you can carry your grill in one hand and your picnic basket in the other.

Tips For Hosting The Best Barbecue Ever!

January 20th, 2010

I can’t think of anything that says “summer” like a backyard barbecue.  Invite your friends, neighbors, and family (if you’re cool with them) and eat good food and party like it’s going out of style!  There are infinite ways that you can celebrate the backyard feast, but I’ll over some tips that I’ve learned from experience (and screwing up my fair share of them!).

First, and most importantly, is to have a plan.  If you think that you’re going to be able to wing this and have everything come together properly, you’re wrong!  You need less preparation as you barbecue more often and know what to expect, but for the first few you should dial in every detail.

Your plan should cover the menu, who’s bringing food, drinks, entertainment, even the music.  This will make sure that you don’t forget a glaring part of the evening.  Your menu should reflect what you like to eat, but also be things that most people will like.  It’s also important to have a vegetarian/vegan option for those that choose to not eat meat.  It’s not as hard as it seems to exclude meat from your barbecue, and your veg friends will greatly appreciate it.

It’s also important that you have all of the tools that you need before game time.  This means ice, a cooler, propane, charcoal, utensils, burger presses, or whatever you’re » Read more: Tips For Hosting The Best Barbecue Ever!

Differences between Infrared Grills and Regular Grills

January 13th, 2010

If you haven’t heard of infrared grills, then let me tell you that they are just awesome.  They use infrared heat that is applied directly to the meat or whatever you are cooking, to give an even temperature throughout.  Plus, it cooks it rapidly and at high temperatures so that you don’t dry the meat out by cooking it for too long.  These types of grills have been available to commercial establishments (like fancy restaurants, etc) for a long time, but the patent was finally made public, and other companies have begun coming out with personal versions so that people can have them in their home or out on their patio to be able to cook some awesome meat right from home.

You may be wondering just how an infrared grill different from a regular grill.  A regular gas or propane grill uses a process known as convection to heat the meat or whatever you are cooking to the desired level, and it begins to cook because of the heat surrounding it.  While this has been a way to cook for centuries, that has been perfected through the process of grills, it still has it’s drawbacks.  You may overcook the meat, and dry it out, and then nobody wants to eat it.  convection is the same way that your stove cooks things. » Read more: Differences between Infrared Grills and Regular Grills
