Gazebo Canopies: Quality Features

August 12th, 2010

There are a variety of Gazebos with different sizes and prices. Different types of gazebos include wood, polyester, outdoor shade, iron, outdoor patio, pergola, square, garden, hexagon and tents for different kinds of occasions including weddings and casual parties. The largest size is 10×10 and is the most popular. Other sizes include 8×8 and 22×16 with ranges in between. The price of a gazebo can be fairly inexpensive ranging from $25 to even more than $799 for more expensive ones. The canopy is very important and provides shade protection from the sun which is its main purpose. Unfortunately, gazebo canopies have a short life span and deteriorate faster than gazebos. The structure of a gazebo may last for years but canopies rarely last longer than two years before breaking down. However, many businesses offer alternate canopies with advanced specifications to provide better protection. » Read more: Gazebo Canopies: Quality Features

Making The Right Patio Lighting Decision

August 5th, 2010

When people are building a new home or going through a remodel on their existing home one of the things that is often overlooked is the outdoor lighting.  Patio lighting is very important and can significantly change the mood and atmosphere around your patio but many people simply install a one bulb basic light fixture and forget about it.  If more people paid attention to the type of patio lighting that they chose, they would get much more enjoyment out of their patio area.

Choosing the right patio light should be thought of as a decorating decision not just choosing a light fixture.  After all, the way you light up an area has a significant impact on the way you will feel in that particular area.  Think of the last time you were in a very  brightly lit area.  You where likely not as comfortable as you would be if you were in an area that had soft lighting in just the right places.  On the flip side of that think of the last time you were in an area that was very dimly lit.  You were likely not comfortable in that area as well.  Your comfort level can be significantly improved if you can take the time to light your patio properly.

One good alternative to a simple one light bulb fixture on your patio » Read more: Making The Right Patio Lighting Decision

Incorporating Solar Patio Lights into Your Holiday Décor

July 15th, 2010

During the months of November and December, many homeowners begin transforming their front yards into a winter wonderland. Setting up large holiday displays, complete with hundreds of twinkling lights, illumination can be seen from tree tops to ground-level surfaces. Unfortunately, being able to express your holiday enthusiasm can cost quite a large sum of money; especially as utility rates continue to rise. What if there was a way to effectively illuminate your yard and save money at the same time? With solar patio lights, homeowners can create their own “Candy Cane Lane” or make a lighted pathway which leads guests to a welcoming cup of wassail.

Some patio lighting options have been specifically designed for holiday use. They come in LED light colors of clear/white, red and green. Usually sold in sets, these lights can be charged during the daytime, requiring eight hours of charge time, and will produce eight hours of nighttime illumination. Depending on the homeowner’s preference, holiday-themed, solar lights may be made brighter or dimmer. To make the glow brighter, lights will need to charge in full sunlight; while to make them dimmer, lights can be charged in partial sunlight. Easy to set-up and move, if necessary solar lights have the ability to be charged in one location during the day and set-up in another location at night. » Read more: Incorporating Solar Patio Lights into Your Holiday Décor

Fire Pit Choices For Your Patio

June 14th, 2010

I enjoy sitting on my patio with my husband in the evening and gazing at the stars, and just enjoying the night air. Though sometimes it can be quite breezy outdoors, this is why I am glad that my husband and I purchased a propane gas fire pit for our patio.

We live back away from the road, so there are no distractions from neighbors or traffic. The evening time can be very peaceful, listening to nothing but the crickets mating. So my husband and I can especially enjoy sitting in front of our fire pit table, while we cuddle on the outdoor bench when the kids are asleep.

The most difficult part of our purchase was choosing which chiminea we wanted. There’s such a wide variety of chiminea’s to choose from. There are the fire pits with a handcrafted mosaic tile finish, Cast Iron with a copper finish as well as the bronze and marble and other designs. I chose the stainless steel urn fire bowl, sometimes we even light it up while we take a dive in the pool during the summer. My family is outdoorsy people; this is why we have really enjoyed » Read more: Fire Pit Choices For Your Patio

Is teak patio furniture better than cast aluminum patio furniture?

June 8th, 2010

What’s the best for your patio furniture, teak or aluminum?

Teak patio furniture  adds an elegant look to your patio area and gives it a classic look. Teak wood is one of the best outdoor wood types because it is very strong and resistant to rotting. Often outdoor wooden furniture rots quickly when exposed to too much rain and sun, but teak furniture can last for many years if it is kept properly. It is also a very hard wood, so termites usually don’t like to nest there.

On the other hand cast aluminum furniture is even more popular and can be found on many modern homes, and it has a number of advantages and drawbacks. Of course a main advantage it has over teak is that it is not as expensive. Also although aluminum can last a long time, eventually it will rust if exposed to rain or moisture and become hazardous for people who are using it. Aluminum also does not look as good as teak  and its appearance can get much worse after they have been scratched or start to rust. However, aluminum can still look good in some households that have modern patio settings and themes.

On the other hand teak requires  more work if you decide to stain it. Most teak patio furniture should be » Read more: Is teak patio furniture better than cast aluminum patio furniture?
