What’s the best for your patio furniture, teak or aluminum?
Teak patio furniture adds an elegant look to your patio area and gives it a classic look. Teak wood is one of the best outdoor wood types because it is very strong and resistant to rotting. Often outdoor wooden furniture rots quickly when exposed to too much rain and sun, but teak furniture can last for many years if it is kept properly. It is also a very hard wood, so termites usually don’t like to nest there.
On the other hand cast aluminum furniture is even more popular and can be found on many modern homes, and it has a number of advantages and drawbacks. Of course a main advantage it has over teak is that it is not as expensive. Also although aluminum can last a long time, eventually it will rust if exposed to rain or moisture and become hazardous for people who are using it. Aluminum also does not look as good as teak and its appearance can get much worse after they have been scratched or start to rust. However, aluminum can still look good in some households that have modern patio settings and themes.
On the other hand teak requires more work if you decide to stain it. Most teak patio furniture should be stained in order to help protect it from rain and dirt. Staining can also improve the furniture’s appearance and you can change the shades to lighter or darker colors. Before staining, it is important to sand down the entire area to remove any old varnish or stains. Apply one layer of staining and leave it to dry before lightly sanding it down with soft sand paper. Continue this process at least three times or until the furniture looks properly painted. It will usually take at least 4 hours for one coat of staining to dry so you should find something to do in the meantime. The last coat should be left for at least one day before it is ready for use.
So the choice is yours – teak or aluminum.
