The term “exterior lighting” encompasses a variety of outdoor lighting fixtures… outdoor pole lights, outdoor wall lights and porch ceiling lights. This article is going to focus on the various styles and shapes displayed by the lighting fixtures that hang on an outside wall or pole.
When a home has a traditional looking post lamp at the entrance to the driveway, then it should have fixtures with a classical style hanging on the exterior walls. A Madera or Benner lamp would seem appropriate. Both of those items copy the look of the traditional lamp, i.e. they have four sides and a sloping top.
A lamp from the Cambridge Collection would also match with outdoor accessories that feature more traditional lines. The lamps in the Cambridge Collection have a flat top, under which four panes of glass slope downwards for about two to three inches. At their base, those panes connect with a metal bar, and under that bar a second four panes of glass slope inward for about ten to twelve inches.
Most of the items meant for use on outside walls hang form a hook, a long hook that attaches to the wall. However, not every light has that same style. When you buy a home, there is always a bit of home improvement that you want to do to it. It is best to do the things you can do on your own first, because this will save a lot of money.
One home improvement project that we did to our home was to paint the outside of our home. We started out by using a power washer to remove as much of the old paint as we could. Next we took scrapers and removed the rest of the old paint. Picking out the color we wanted our house to be was a lot of fun. We decided to do the trim and the main part of the house in different colors. We spent several days with a brush to paint the entire house. We left the brick the original color, but you can paint over brick also if you want to do this. Our house looks amazing from just this little effort! Doing this project yourself can be very cheap. I enjoy sitting on my patio with my husband in the evening and gazing at the stars, and just enjoying the night air. Though sometimes it can be quite breezy outdoors, this is why I am glad that my husband and I purchased a propane gas fire pit for our patio.
We live back away from the road, so there are no distractions from neighbors or traffic. The evening time can be very peaceful, listening to nothing but the crickets mating. So my husband and I can especially enjoy sitting in front of our fire pit table, while we cuddle on the outdoor bench when the kids are asleep.
The most difficult part of our purchase was choosing which chiminea we wanted. There’s such a wide variety of chiminea’s to choose from. There are the fire pits with a handcrafted mosaic tile finish, Cast Iron with a copper finish as well as the bronze and marble and other designs. I chose the stainless steel urn fire bowl, sometimes we even light it up while we take a dive in the pool during the summer.
