If you have an inground pool then I’m sure you have asked yourself this very question when looking for a safety pool cover “Should I buy a mesh or solid pool safety cover?” The first thing I would like to mention is if you plan on closing your swimming pool for the winter each year then you should definitely invest in a swimming pool safety cover no questions asked. There are several reasons to do this and I will name a few. First off, a swimming pool is a huge liability in your backyard and people are know to drown especially when they are unsupervised. But what’s even worse is that during the winter months, if you have just a plain old cover, it’s even scarier when someone falls in because now the cover is in the way. I may be sounding like a worry wort but this scenario has happened to me personally so I would really suggest buying one. If we would have had a safety cover my baby cousin wouldn’t have been rushed to the hospital on Easter morning that year.
So now that I convinced you to get a safety cover (hopefully) you need to decide if it should be a mesh or a solid. There are two schools of though here. There is the lazy pool owner who rather just take it easy all winter long and not worry about pool care. If this is you then I would recommend going with a mesh cover. This way no rain or snow will collect on top causing you to go out there and remove it. On the other hand when it comes time to open your swimming pool chances are it will be green or black water you will be dealing with. But that’s the price you pay for laziness. I don’t recommend it. If you don’t want those problems then go with a solid safety cover. Rain, snow, leaves and other debris will collect on the cover but if you keep checking, use your pool cover pump, and sweep off dry leaves then you will have a clean and happy cover and no mess to deal with in the spring.
