With good outdoor lighting the premises will be bright enough to ward off potential burglars. In addition, should neighbors or visitors fall due to poor lighting, an insurance claim can ensue. The last thing insurance companies want are claims which will raise your premium.

Therefore, garden lights should be of sufficient wattage to light the area. A good idea is to have a timer on the system so that lights will go on even if the house is uninhabited. This will give the impression that someone might be home and no burglar wants to be highlighted by lights.
